Fame, like success, can be intoxicating; it can make it hard to keep your life in balance. It takes self-discipline and a strong sense of right and wrong to succeed. Even then, some people fail.
· When everyone’s telling
· You how wonderful you are,
· That can easily go to your head
· And cause you to become reckless.
· Keeping your feet on the ground is hard.
Rock stars, like professional athletes, entertainers, and leaders, are often surrounded by people who are mostly out for themselves. Power and parties can get you out of control, and without that it’s hard to keep your wits about you. Whatever your station in life, find mentors, coaches, and friends you can trust and rely on, don’t take anything for granted, and use your own common sense to double check on what you’re hearing. It’s easy to close your eyes and believe everything, but you are allowed (and responsible) to question things you don’t think are right. You owe it to yourself to act responsibly and to hold yourself and your team to the highest standards. Janis Joplin was at the top of her profession when she overdosed and died. Sometimes it’s too easy to step over a line and even harder to get back to where you need to be. There’s no shame in being cautious and trusting your instincts, because if you don’t, the consequences can be devastating. Don’t compromise yourself – you’re all that you’ve got. Trust your gut today.
Janis Lyn Joplin (1943 – 1970): American singer and musician. One of the most successful and widely known rock stars of her era, she remains one of the top-selling musicians in the United States.
