Business books are full of stories of people who had dreams and talent. The back story was that each of those people had to learn how to run a business.
· Good ideas are easier to come up with
· Than the skills needed to make them successful.
· Business ideas and business execution skill are very different.
The best idea people aren’t necessarily the best ones to bring those ideas to market. Often those creative types need to learn the business basics needed for success. Don’t think you’re above learning or be resistant to the hard work it might take - nothing comes easy, and success at anything comes with a steep personal commitment. We’ve all known people that have gone back to school or taken online courses to bolster the technical skills needed to run a business (or a part of the business). Business journals are full of articles these days about upskilling – that’s just a fancy term for gaining new skills to keep your career on an upward track. If you want to be successful, be responsible for learning how to work in and operate your business – don’t think that others should do that for you. You are responsible for your knowledge, skills, and abilities today.
