The
third time is a charm, especially if the first two ended in failure. The Philadelphia Eagles are the Super Bowl
champions because they knew the taste of defeat and let that make them hungry
for the taste of success. They were the
underdogs in all of their post-season games even though they’d been very
successful throughout the year; they lost their first-string quarterback and their
backup lead them to the winner’s table; and they had no reason to think they
could beat the best team and quarterback in football except for their belief in
themselves. Many of us are sports fans so the metaphors we take from that and
apply to life are many and meaningful: winners
speak of team, adversity and pride, but they mostly attribute their success to
working hard every day so that they can be in a position to win. The hospitality business is a lot like that –
lots of competition, long hours, and daily challenges: but it you hang in
there, hang together, and never take your eye off the ball, you and your team,
like the Eagles, can be winners today.
