My father grew up idolizing Babe Ruth… and 40 years later so did I.
· The Babe was a ballplayer and so much more.
· His record inspired people everywhere for decades.
His wasn’t just a home run record – it was something that before and after seemed unattainable. He got there because he never gave up trying. And it’s that legacy that continues to inspire people today – to keep trying. Even his failures were seen as majestic—one sportswriter said, "When Ruth misses a swipe at the ball, the stands quiver”. It’s no wonder that people idolized him. And that’s the kind of attitude we look for in employees – doing their best every time. Because it’s hard to beat a person who never gives up. You should celebrate every effort of your employees – let them know you appreciate them. And even when they miss, take the opportunity to coach them to learn from that experience. The business world loves sport’s analogies, and the story of Babe Ruth and countless other athletes are often used to inspire employees to never give up. Whatever your method or message, find ways to inspire your employees to love what they do today.
George Herman "Babe" Ruth (1895 – 1948): American professional baseball player regarded as one of the greatest sports heroes in American culture and is considered by many to be the greatest baseball player of all time.
