Give what you hope to receive...

The hospitality business in Las Vegas is a 24-hour proposition, 24/7. There’s nothing part-time about the effort needed here.

·      The companies demand loyalty from their staff.

·      And the staff demands commitment in return.

·      This really needs to be a 2-way proposition.

Loyalty to a company must be earned – and employees today know what they want: managers that care, career opportunities, a chance to be involved and heard, and appreciation for their loyalty. Interestingly, managers have much simpler expectations – they’ll bend over backwards for reliability in attendance, effort, and being engaged. If you read those last two sentences more closely, it looks like this two-way loyalty should be easy to achieve. It is if managers are emotionally intelligent, good at communicating and coaching, and catch people doing things right. And if employees are open with their managers about their needs and hopes and are willing to be reliable. Two-way loyalty is an active exercise, continuously practiced and reinforced. Nothing should be taken for granted – both sides must earn their stripes every day. And that’s not a part-time job. Companies that get this right will have no trouble getting and keeping employees and customers today.
