Competence leads to confidence...

Sometimes your confidence in something isn’t 100%. But if you really believe in it, act like it is.

If you decide to do something, you own it.

Do it only if you’re willing to own all of it.

I think confidence comes in increments. At first, most things are only an idea, ready to be researched and vetted. If you have an idea for something that you believe has the potential to significantly improve something, make sure your reasons for wanting to do it are reasonable and valid – reasonable in that you think it can be done, and it’s backed by a valid (i.e.: demonstrable) need. At this point, you’re in the dual role of creator and PR specialist – creator as in: you own it, and PR as in exuding confidence enough to build trust. Been there, done that: my paperless idea seemed crazy to everyone but me and I had to convince almost everyone else that it was both a great idea and it would work. Even when there weren’t enough technical and practical supporters by my side, I couldn’t quit … because I owned it. Confidence in your vision must feel like 100% to everyone else, and you must do what’s needed (planning, research, collaboration, and testing) to be convinced yourself. And transparency throughout a journey like this will help build trust in your vision. Have confidence in your vision today.
