Listen and learn...

Thinking you know everything is a fool’s game. It’s never going to happen.

The only way to know everything is to know lots of people.

And to be smart enough to listen to them and learn.

When we started building and opening casinos, we thought we were pretty smart. The more we got into it the more we realized we had a lot more to learn. That is the beauty of being part of a team – the people you work with ask questions that sharpen your knowledge and lead you to learn more. Their added perspectives lead to more robust discussions and understanding, their added skills lead to a more well-rounded and balanced approach to the work, and their added numbers lead to more collaboration. The key is to listen more than you speak, not be afraid to admit you need to know more, and to be open to everyone’s thinking. Teams are assembled for these reasons and it’s wise to put your ego aside when working in that kind of environment. Everyone you work with knows things you don’t so it’s wise to listen and learn from them. My mother always told me that “two heads are better than one” and that was never truer than when I worked with others. Take advantage of what others can teach you today.
