Let your values be your guide...

Managers and supervisors must know that their employees look up to them. For guidance, inspiration, information, and more. That’s not a role to be taken lightly.

·      People need to be led

·      By those they respect and trust.

·      What leaders say and do is closely watched

·      By employees who look to them as role models.

·      It’s almost the most important part of the jobs they do.

Companies often create mission, vision, and value statements to guide their employees. The mission statement says “who we are”; the vision statement talks about “where we hope to go”; and the values are the goalposts that guide their behavior. Of all the role modeling that managers and supervisors do, being good examples of these values is one of the most important things they do. Whatever values your company has, you need to know what they are and incorporate them into your work. As important as these are, most leaders are fuzzy about these mission, vision, and value statements. Make it your business to seek them out, to discuss their importance with you supervisor, include them in every discussion you have with your employees, and always be mindful of what they are and how you are living them. Every leader must live their life as a role model for others today.
