We all want to conform and be accepted. But sometimes, it’s best to just be yourself.
· The need to be accepted
· Is strong in any community.
· But the desire to also be yourself
· Is very important for your self-esteem.
· Learn to balance the two to be the best you can be.
As children everywhere head back to school, it’s interesting to see how they learn to socialize with others. Their dress, personalities, and behaviors are all on display as they get re-acquainted with old classmates and meet new ones. This is great practice for when they later join companies and meet new workmates. Teachers and supervisors each have a vested interest making this an efficient and effective process: it must be a disciplined and deliberate effort to introduce new people into their school or work environments. It starts with introductions and orientation and continues with learning about the balance between individual and collaborative actions and efforts. Making sure people get along while focusing on group productivity should continue until prescribed performance and productivity are achieved. While that’s different for everyone, they all need this period of adjustment to fully fit in to their new environment. Any one of them can start late, look and be different, and be uncertain, and still succeed. Only then will they be able to perform at levels they can be proud of. Take the right amount of time to effectively onboard your new peeps today.
