For most of my career, we opened a new resort every 4 years. We probably could have waited, but that timing seemed right.
· You work hard
· On every project.
· And when it’s finished,
· You start looking forward to
· The next one to get engaged in.
Our projects were big – very big and lots of employees. Each took 4 years to plan and build, and 2 years to organize and launch. The best part was promoting nearly everyone that wanted to move ahead, which was a great retention tool. If you want to keep your best employees, give them something to look forward to – you don’t need to open new businesses to do that. Regularly talk to your employee about what they’d like to do if they could – possibly a different job, but more often just simple adjustments and enhancements to the one they already have. Done on a regular basis, this keeps the job fresh, challenging, and exciting. Nobody likes to get so good at something that it’s boring; there’s a rush with every new job or assignment – figure out the best way to make that happen with your employees. Don’t wait – the right time to do that is today.
