Making memories matters...

When I bought this cabin in the woods, there was a dilapidated tree house on the property. A relic from the past. A promise for the future.

·      Vacations

·      Mean trying new things.

·      It’s not about doing anything,

·      But more about finding special places,

·      To create new memories that will last a lifetime.

We eyed this old structure for years and, at the end of last summer decided it was time to rebuild it. All winter we talked about this project and dreamed about what it might be. When we got here this summer, the planning got started in earnest. Making lists, surveying the site, and checking out what we’d need at the small local independent hardware and lumber store. Yesterday we got started, and you could feel the energy in the air. We spent the afternoon measuring everything twice, discussing each cut, and working together. We cut the lumber for the frame, bolted the first boards in place, and stopped often to admire our handiwork. And in the process, we all realized that doing this project together was maybe more important than the treehouse we’d have when the project was completed. And that we would have the memories of this time together, splinters and all, to savor for a lifetime. Make the journeys you take to accomplish the things you do as important as the destinations you seek today.
