Sometimes we don’t appreciate how
good something or someone is: we get caught up in ourselves, see things from
only one perspective, and overlook the hopes, needs and feelings of others. We
get fooled into thinking we’re right, or that the things we’re working on are
more important than what others have put their hearts into. But when we stop and really look at the work
of others and note the depth of their commitment and efforts, we can’t help but
appreciate and feel good because of them. Work and life are busy for everyone:
that’s why it’s so important to see things from another’s perspective, to
listen to that which is unspoken but can surely be seen if only we take the
time to look: in those times we can get more than we give. Loyalty, like
respect and trust, needs to be nurtured and earned, and continually refreshed.
And the only way to get these is to give them first. Don’t ever take good
relationships for granted: treasure and appreciate them all today.
Voltaire (1694-1778):
Philosopher, Essayist
