Even Steve Jobs, known as the inventor at Apple recognized the value of his team to his company’s success. In business, like in sports, everything is done by a team of people.
· You may have great ideas and a huge work ethic.
· But no one can do the work of everyone.
· Don’t ever forget that.
I think back to all the cool HR things done on my watch and know that none of them could have happened without our very talented and dedicated employees. In every job. In multiple departments. Working together, brainstorming together, overcoming challenges together, and sticking it out together. Leaders must take extra time and effort communicating clearly to and building their teams, encouraging, and inspiring everyone to do his or her best, thinking more about we than me. And making sure that everyone feels fulfilled and recognized for the team’s achievements. It’s this last part that’s so important – everyone owns a piece of the work, and everyone must receive a piece of the glory. Even if you are the visionary and the spokesperson, don’t forget that great things are never done by one person: they’re done by a team of people. Whatever else you do, talk up your team today.
Steve Jobs (1955 – 2011): American business magnate, inventor, and investor best known as the co-founder of Apple, chairman and majority shareholder of Pixar, and the founder of NeXT.
