You need a plan if
you want to be great. You need a vision, to be able to articulate it, to figure
out exactly how to do it, and to work hard to make it happen. It had been 17
years since the last new hotel had opened before Steve Wynn had the vision and
drive to develop The Mirage and create a new genre known as an integrated
resort. Everybody thought it was a foolish and expensive dream that could never
succeed: they industry in Las Vegas had long been on a safe and conservative road
when he took that chance. It’s difficult and risky to strike out on your own
and try something new and different – but often that’s the only way to have the
opportunity to achieve greatness. Had Wynn followed the conventional wisdom back
then the skyline and fortunes of Las Vegas would not be what they are today. The
moral to this story: pursue your dreams and plans and try to make them happen. That’s
how to make great things happen today.
