· Go where the action is.
· It’s challenging but fun.
· It’s where you’ll learn a lot.
· And always be on the run.
Most leaders I worked with thrived on action – whether opening a new property, tackling a new project, or dealing with what needs to be done. They’re there when you need them, they’re the first in line to volunteer, and always have a hand, an ear, or a shoulder to lend. They’ll never complain there’s too much to do, nor disappear when the going gets tough. In good times and bad, busy or slow, they’re the ones you call on because they’re always willing to go. Be careful you don’t take advantage of them, although they’ll never say that is so. Thank them profusely and never say no on the off chance they need something. And when the time is right, make certain the spotlight shines brightest on them. Next time you’re hiring managers, ask the candidates behavioral questions about the extra efforts they’ve done in the past, and let them know that those are your expectations. That’s the kind of mindset you want your team to have today.
