Be positive and confident about the choices you make....

Our lives are filled with a series of choices. With each, you have a chance to say “yes” or “no”.

·      Life’s decisions are

·      Mostly ours alone to make.

·      We each must face those choices

·      With open hearts and minds, and hope.

Interestingly, either choice we make is a “yes”, as in “yes I will” or “yes I won’t”.  Looked at that way, our choices are always definitive and positive. As a long-time HR professional, I know the work that goes into someone deciding whether to accept a new job… or to accept that they’re not going to accept that new job. There isn’t a ‘no’ in that decision, only a ‘yes’ to considering options or moving forward in a certain direction. The same can be said when coaching is applied to performance and behavior issues at work – the goal of the coach is to help the person being coached not to belabor the situation under discussion, but to say ‘yes’ to improving in the future; often, just getting them talking about it is a ‘yes’. Or asking an employee to participate in a project – focusing on the positive aspects and expected results is the quickest and best way to get someone to say ‘yes’; actually, agreeing to consider it is a ‘yes’.  There are countless examples of choices any of us get to make each day and it all begins with a ‘yes’. Our job as friends or supervisors is to help others analyze and understand their choices and then celebrate the ones they get engaged with or say ‘yes’ to today.
