· Feel good about your accomplishments.
· Recognize the accomplishments of others.
· That’s what builds confidence and self-belief.
I stumbled onto the concept of catching people doing things right as a technique of continuous recognition when we were building and preparing to open the Mirage. We conducted a pilot program in the Golden Nugget’s housekeeping department to help reduce the high turnover there. At that time there were suggestions to just raise the wages, but we felt that raising the overall positive employee relations environment might do more. So, we trained and encouraged the supervisors to focus on the things employees did right – that created a perception of fairness that employees appreciated, and the result was higher morale and productivity and lower turnover. It created an atmosphere where employees experienced proud moments throughout their workday and that helped build their confidence and self-belief. When we spread that practice to all departments our employee satisfaction soared. Everyone needs to feel good about themselves – help them do that so they reach their full potential today.
