Many years ago, my career in the manufacturing industry was cut short by an industrial accident: fortunately, I have lots of good memories of that part of my life. But new dreams started growing again when I went to work in the gaming industry, moved to Las Vegas to open The Mirage, and continued through 20 more years of resort openings and professional growth.
· Trying new things, then
· Working to improve on them, then
· Bigger projects with more complex challenges
· Led to bigger and better ideas and developments,
· Letting teamwork and dedication drive even greater results.
That’s how successful careers are supposed to develop – one thing leading to another, one result being leveraged to create a next better one, and always dreaming about the next challenge. No time to dwell on memories. You don’t need big hotel projects to do be a dreamer: this same dynamic exists with every little problem that needs solving, customer issue that needs resolving, day to day business challenge that needs to be overcome, or simple process improvement to enhance productivity performance. Effective leaders articulate the challenges, get everyone engaged in the problem-solving process, consider all input, focus on results, and celebrate when objectives are achieved. No challenge is too small, nor is any success limited only to itself – they’re all part of the dream. Keep your team focused on and excited about their dreams today.
