Every now and then we all pretend to be someone or something we’re not. Until, of course, the ruse is discovered.
· Being ourselves
· Is what we should be.
· Pretending to be something else
· Is foolish and often difficult to sustain.
Everybody has started something new in their lives or careers – made new friends, moved to a new town, attended a new school, joined a new team, or changed jobs. Each of those occasions was an opportunity to be something you’re not because those around you won’t know who or what you were before that. But that sounds more like a story in a novel or movie and it’s easier said than done. After all, what you are can’t help but come thru in those situations and it would be hard to continue the charade without getting confused. And the fact of the matter is that who and what you are is all good. But if there are aspects of your life or behavior you don’t like, there’s no better time than right now to change for the better. Those little course corrections can and should happen whenever you make that kind of decision. Do the best you can to be your best self in every situation you encounter. Be yourself today.
Kurt Vonnegut (1922 – 2007): American writer and humorist known for his satirical and darkly humorous novels.
