Be honest with yourself...

You must be honest with and about the person you see in the mirror when you’re brushing your teeth. Who better to do that?

·      Honesty is the best policy.

·      Especially when it pertains to you.

·      And humility is also the best policy,

·      Especially when it pertains to others.

The pride you have in yourself must also be tempered by humility. It’s easy to think you’re the best at everything but a more honest appraisal helps keep you balanced. None of us are all one way or the other – neither all good nor bad, but being honest will help you to be your best self. And that is the best way to measure others – don’t think you’re better or worse until you know what you’re measuring others against. Put those comparisons aside and you’ll start to deal with others the way they are. Do that when you’re evaluating or coaching others, so it really is all about them and not blurred with how or what that means to or for you. When in doubt, put yourself in their shoes and think of what you’d want in those circumstances. Tell the truth about yourself so that you can tell it about others today.

Adeline Virginia Woolf (1882 – 1941): English writer, and important modernist 20th-century author who pioneered the use of stream of consciousness as a narrative device.
