Never forget to say something nice...

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day and you probably did something nice for someone. Big or small, the gesture was probably from the heart. So, what are you going to do today – do you think those Valentine’s Day-type niceties are to be saved for special occasions like that only? Today, or any day for that matter, there are all kinds of nice things you could think about doing:

·      Say good morning to your employees.

·      Ask someone if they’re having a nice day.

·      Inquire if you can do something for someone.

·      Wish someone a happy birthday or anniversary.

·      Give ‘atta-girl’ or ‘boy’ shout outs to good employees.

·      Thank your employees as they leave at the end of the day.

And so many more: they’re small deeds, but meaningful to someone not expecting it. They take little of your time but make a big impact when you make the time to do them. They’re things you probably think about doing but often forget about in the frenzy of the day. They’re good intentions until you do them and then are the things that trust, employee satisfaction, morale, respect, and retention are built on. Next time you tell someone “Have a nice day”, do something to make that happen. Never underestimate the importance of little deeds… and then do one (or more) today.

Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde (1854 – 1900): Irish poet and playwright.
