Live up to your highest expectations: others are counting on you

One of the first things managers must learn is that everything they say, and do, and say they do is under the watchful eyes of their employees.  As a manager, you control their professional destinies, and they want to be certain you have the integrity and more to deserve their trust. So, they’ll watch and take a measure of you by what you do. Think about this:

·      A manager is not everyone’s friend; but you must be friendly

·      You won’t always agree; but you must be open and agreeable

·      You’re not always right; but you must know right from wrong

·      You can’t know everything; but you must be curious to learn

·      And you won’t see everything; but you must care enough to know

As a manager, you’ve got to be the kind of person they’ll want to follow. There’s no perfect description of what kind of person that is, so just try to be like the best boss you ever had. Remember the things s/he did, and said, and said they would do, how they lived up to their responsibilities, and how they made you feel. And then strive to be like that. Most likely, that’s a person with integrity. One who’s trustworthy, who says what they’ll do, and does it. Be worthy of someone’s trust and respect today
