NOTE: I like using quotes to support the point I’m trying to make in each of my daily messages; each week those messages relate to one of a set of rotating corporate values – this week’s value is “Professionalism”. When I looked up quotes, I found several by today’s author. I normally don’t repeat authors too often but, in this instance, it seemed appropriate. They’ll each headline one of the 5 messages which, in turn, will be a progressive chapter in this week’s overall theme: how professionals should think and act.
Leadership professionals set the tone in the workplace while making sure the company’s vision is understood, followed, and accomplished. Leading people, however, can sometimes be lonely, having to act the part without the benefit of any real friends among those you supervise. But you can’t let that get you down – the relationships you form should be based on open and clear communication, a healthy dose of emotional intelligence, trust, and respect. Which should engender trust and respect in return. You ought to be encouraged by that kind of work environment and shouldn’t miss the opportunity to leverage it to inspire your employees. Really: there’s no other way to go. Make that your mindset and purpose today.
