Teams show their true strength in how they respond the moment things don’t go their way — collectively and individually. That requires a disciplined operations and communications strategy:
• Beginning of Day Meetings — pre‑shift meetings that give every employee the information they need to plan and start their day. Multiple shifts require multiple meetings. • Cross Talk — real‑time updates shared immediately with the people who need to know. • End of Day Debrief — what happened, what worked, what didn’t, and what everyone can learn from. The backbone of continuous improvement.
These practices don’t happen on their own. They require intentional design and consistent leadership
support. Pushback often comes from managers who feel they don’t have the time or bandwidth to hold meetings like these. What they’re really asking for is leadership direction.
It starts at the top. Senior leaders must model creative scheduling, clear communication standards,
and the discipline of sharing information consistently. Organizations benefit from having an internal communications plan — and staff — to coordinate message flow. With planned delegation, leaders can “deputize” employees at all levels to help keep information moving.
I’m biased. I hired an internal communications leader and saw firsthand how organization‑wide
information flow changes engagement. Employees who feel “in‑the‑know” become more connected to their work. They aren’t just receiving the message — they’re part of it.
Teams that practice disciplined information sharing are better prepared for the ups and downs of
daily operations. They treat winning and losing as learning opportunities. They work at getting better. Starting today.
