If you’re trying to innovate alone, you’re not innovating — you’re guessing. Innovation becomes real only when ideas are shared, tested, challenged, and improved by others.
Every hotel and casino I opened was built through collaboration at
every level. In the early phases, a small group of executives shaped the
vision, designed the concepts, and created the broad plans. Those were intense
days and nights — fast, creative, and deeply collaborative.
Then hundreds of directors and managers expanded that work. They
built their own departmental plans, hired their teams, trained them, and
coached them through onboarding. They joined in common programming, shared
ideas, exchanged information, and built on each other’s best practices.
The largest collaboration came in the final month before opening,
when thousands of employees arrived to learn their roles and prepare to greet
customers for the first time. Organized in groups of up to twenty per job
classification, they trained together, learned together, and formed the working
relationships that make “two or more heads better than one.” They supported
each other through opening, honing their technical and service skills while
becoming the face of the company to the guests eager to experience something
new.
Everything was new for all of us. And the only way we succeeded
was by collaborating, working, learning, and growing together. That’s how
innovation works best— not as a solo act, but as a shared endeavor that turns
ideas into reality every day. Starting today.
